(Belated) New Year’s latest

They say new year resolutions don’t get past the first day of the year. Whoever said that was a genius. But oh well here we are better late than never.

Preperation for the new season has started and it is heartening to see players making their way down to the outskirts of the suburbs to train despite it being the holidays. Initially, we thought attendance would be bad and that we would not have enough to field a decent team but we were wrong. A check with our registrar Shaun “his fringe always covers his eye” Ang revealed that almost 50 players have been signed for this season’s round of the 4Unis so we expect tough but healthy competiotion for the 32 spots up for grabs.

To give the players an idea of their playing level, NTURugby played a friendly agaist the SAS “B” division boys on Friday. It was one of those games where losing would mean we are in shit up to our waist(although there is still time to improve), and winning would not necessarily mean that we were the best team in the world either. The king and his advisors were going to use this match to measure the players’ individual ability and how these same individuals work together as a team. From the game, there were positives as well as negatives which helps the monarchy of NTURugby decide its next course of action and at the same time believe that there is the light at the end of the tunnel. Credit to the SAS “B” boys who did well to match their much bigger and physical opponents. The boys may be smaller but they were certainly fitter and more organise making them worthy opponents of the Boon Lay Boys. At the end of the day, the scoreline did not matter as both teams left the field with valuable experience that will help them improve. For the Boon Lay Boys, the result meant that we were not in deep shit neither was there any indication that we were the best team in the world. Its now back to the outskirts of the suburbs for the Boys from Boon Lay before the next friendly which is tentatively scheduled for next Friday.
